Urban Nature Visitation, Accessibility, and Impact of Travel Distance for Sustainable Cities

 

There are still lessons to be learned on the importance of accessible urban nature from the COVID pandemic. A new study analyzed mobility data and survey results of Tel-Aviv residents on their urban park visitation. Results suggest that people who lived within 1 km of their preferred urban nature site had disproportionate access to the benefits of urban nature during and after lockdowns than others. Well-distributed green space must be a priority for sustainable city planning.

A case study from Tennessee found that extension agents would make excellent candidates for urban forestry education. Surveyed agents were mostly interested in urban forestry, receive questions about it, but over half reported little to no knowledge on the subject.
